Ready to drum up the customers? Digital marketing is a must-have to build brand awareness online and to promote your business products or services. If you are just getting started this could sound intimidating for you but no worries, we’ve got you! In this post, we will go over a few different ways to market your small business whether you have a brick and mortar or solely an e-commerce business.
Email Marketing
If you’ve heard that email is dead that’s a lie (over 70 percent of Millennials prefer communications from businesses to come from email).
Email marketing is easier than you think and a great way to connect with your current audience as well as nurture relationships with new ones. You may have potential customers who have found your website or social media but aren’t quite ready to buy yet. Email marketing is a critical tool in building like know trust and bringing in qualified leads.
First, you’ll need to find the right email marketing tool for your business and then the fun begins, you can experiment with your newsletter and any other promotions your biz is running. We know you’re busy running your business but email marketing will help you scale and there are many automations you can set up to take the manual work off of you.
Once you get into a rhythm with creating email content you will want to learn more about your audience so that you can segment and personalize your emails for different types of customers. We’re sure you get it, no one wants a million emails sent to them so we don’t want to overwhelm customers with emails they may not be interested in.
Lastly, remember to track your email analytics to keep growing and nurturing those relationships.
Social Media
Do it for the GRAM!
We know 5+ years ago Instagram and Facebook were used mainly for fun to keep up with friends and family or just as a photo diary of your life. But now brands and even influencers are making a living by promoting themselves on social media. While Instagram and other platforms can still be used for socializing it also can be a powerful tool for businesses to connect with their audience and build brand awareness online. Using social media as a promotional tool can also help your domain authority and your rankings on search engines. Why not add one or more channels to potentially find more customers? If it sounds like a lot for you don’t sweat it, you can always cross-post to different social media platforms.
A recent trend we have seen is businesses using social media as a form of customer service. When you have an issue with a product or service who hates having to call? 🙋🏻♀️ Using your socials to answer customer questions and resolve any issues not only nurtures the relationships with your current customers but builds trust with potential customers who are interested in your product/services and are just browsing your page.
Depending on the type of business you’ll want to consider which platforms work best for you and how they will fit into your social media strategy. If you are a service-based business you may want to include Facebook and LinkedIn in to build relationships and have a place for your past customers to leave reviews. Whereas if you are a product-based business Instagram and Pinterest will help you reach new customers where they are already hanging out and potentially shopping or looking for ideas. Remember you don't have to be in all the places, pick the platforms that work best for you!
Google + SEO Ranking
If you have a website (which you definitely should), you may be thinking “hmm what now?” or “why doesn’t my website show up near the top in a google search?” Many factors go into your google ranking but the first thing you can do is improve your SEO or search engine optimization.
Google and other search engines are simply bringing up what customers are searching for. So how do you improve your SEO? Use the problems that your customers are having and what they are looking for to conduct keyword research to position yourself higher in the rankings for search engines.
Your blog is a great place to start implementing your keyword research. Keyword optimized blogs will not only increase your ranking and chances to be seen but will also provide your audience with quality long-form content.
And also further shows your authority on your product or service. If you need more help check out tools like YOAST to improve SEO on your blogs and UBERSUGGEST for keyword research.
Customer Loyalty
Want to know a secret? This is one of the easiest ways to market your business… let your work speak for itself.
Digital marketing is great but word-of-mouth referrals have a big impact. If your previous customers love your business and what you provide you will not only have customer loyalty but their reviews and testimonials will bring in new customers. Offer up a discount or giveaway for customers to leave reviews or to repost their purchases on their social media.
Loyal customers will also be repeat customers when they believe in your business and you are providing them with a valuable product or service.
If you have had a good experience with them they will likely purchase again and you should continue to nurture relationships with them. On average it costs 5x more to acquire a new customer than to retain a current one… so remember keep building those relationships!
Wrap Up
All in all, marketing your new biz doesn’t have to be stressful. Research your customers and use avenues like newsletters and blogging to build relationships and trust with your audience. Connect and engage with them through social media and let your brand values shine through, show them why you’re their perfect match.
And keep in mind to not only focus on generating new leads but nurturing your current ones, too!
